Biggest Ever West Midlands Grades 7-3 Competition
The 3 April Graded competition organised by Mary Neeld will be the largest held since the West Midlands region was formed - 430+ competitors will fill 5 panels from 8.30am to 5.30pm!!!

Regional Closed Synchro Postponed from 10 Apr
This event has been postponed due to a lack of entries (being held on Easter Saturday). A decision will be made shortly on rearranging; it may be held alongside the normal Closed Competition.
Several clubs new to Synchro events had entered so hopefully when rearranged it will be bigger than ever!

Change to March Grades 7-3
This event will now be held on 3 April.

Change to Squad Training Date
The February squad training will now be held on 22 February.

Improvements to Competition Entry
To make the process easier for clubs and organisers, a changed entry process is to be trialled. Hopefully this will eliminate cases of competitors being entered in the wrong age groups, with misspelt names etc.
Each club will be sent a listing of all their registered competitors with names, date of birth and current grade. Any competitors missing (e.g. those individually or recently registered with BG) can be added to the bottom of the list which once checked will be added to our database.
To enter competitors, the clubs only have to highlight the name of the person entering, correct any errors and send it back.
We would like your feedback after using the process so our Chair can carry thoughts forward to the competition working party meeting to be held in March.

Regional Closed Competition
Information about this competition (April 10), which includes more provision for synchro at different levels, is now available from the competitions page.

West Midlands AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the West Midlands Trampolining Committee will take place on November 29th at the Cocksmoor Wood Leisure Centre. All members are encouraged to attend. Last year Jon Wall announced his engagement to Emma Beck at the meeting. You never know maybe if you come to this years meeting the wedding date might be set!!

It is proposed that the length of time that officials are to be elected to serve on the committee will be changed from one to two years. This will be on a rotating cycle so that at each future AGM only half of the officials will be up for election. This will help ensure continuity of experience and expertise.

Grade 1 and 2 entry fees
Entry fees to Grade 1 and 2 events (apart from Finals) will be £8 for 2004. Entry fees to regional grading events will remain the same.

Regional Squad
The final Squad session this year will be on 9 November 2003. All qualified Grade 1s and 2s are welcome to come along. More details from Jon.

Schools Regional Competition
Confirmed as 29 October.

Competition Season 2004
To improve the accuracy and smooth running of future competitions it has been decided that:

  • closing dates will be four weeks prior to the competition
  • corrections of errors will be accepted upto 1 week prior to the competition
  • team changes will still be permitted at check-in
  • the regional competition entry fee is not expected to rise next year (the third year without a rise)

Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Clearance
For coaches who are paid for more than 1 hour a week, the government are increasing the cost of C.R.B. clearance from the current £12 to £29 from 1st July (in addition to the £3 admin charge from BG as previously).
If you wish to beat this massive increase in cost, I suggest you ring the C.R.B. on 0870 9090844 before this date, quote the BG reference of 20370100009. They will ask you a series of questions and a partially completed form will be sent to you. Complete sections A-H. You also need to ring BG Coaching Dept (01952 820330) and ask them to send you a CRB Identity Verification form. Then ask your club/school/organisation chairman, secretary, official or coach to check and complete the forms and verify who you are. The papers are then sent to BG with a cheque for £15.
The above is for applications registered with CRB before 1st July. After that date, the cost will be £32.
If you are a volunteer paid for a maximum of 1 hour a week, the cost remains at £3 (the BG admin cost).

Questions for BG?
Martin Laws, chair of the BG Trampolining Technical Committee will be attending an open meeting to clear up questions we have and to listen to suggestions. If you have opinions, the meeting is the place to air them!

Change in Competition Date
Please note the grades will be held on June 8th, not the 7th as previously planned.

BG Liaison Meeting
It was clear following last month's meeting with the BG chief executive, Alan Sommerville, that coaches would value the opportunity to engage with BG on a national level both to clarify important issues and make their opinions on how the sport should develop heard at the highest level.
This time, Martin Laws (the BG officer responsible for trampolining) will visit on 24 May from 2pm till 5pm. This is an opportunity to not only clarify the current position but to make your views heard on how BG should improve, to better meet your needs.

Mervyn Trow
It is with sad regret that we announce the passing of Mervyn, who died shortly after Christmas. Mervyn was WMAGA Treasurer and a long-time supporter and friend of gymnastics in our region. Mervyn wil be missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts are with Betty and his family at this time.
